This page is a non-exhaustive collection of sites I like and would recommend in a given situation, and were not neccesarily on other pages on the site (each page may have a few links specific to that topic).
The links here are for things I have found to be useful, informative, productive, or just plain fun on a regular or semi-regular basis. I can make no guarantees, warranties or otherwise predict the future that any of these will remain worthy in the future. On the other hand, all of these are go-to sites/links/people/businesses and I've had many positive experiences with each of them. Note the plural. Unless something crazy happens, these are the good ones.

Message board links
PCGS message boards, and you can explore the rest of PCGS from links there. One of the top tier third party graders, moving more into world coins, coin conservation and has a registry for collectors to share/compete. I 'hang out' there for the message boards primarily. Lots of help when needed.

NGC message boards. Less active than the other two, but still helpful when needed. NGC is also top tier, and has been grading world coins/medals more extensively. Their coin conservation services have been around longer and I've had good luck with them. Also has a registry for sharing/competing. I'm a paying member there.

A most excellent resource including articles/forums. Extremely useful and highly recommended.

Other numismatic related links
Not a member, but I have spend much time perusing photos. A lot of google searches end up there too. Mostly photos, and a way for individuals to organize their medals, with some for sale/trade.
(10.04.16 addendum: this site appears to be down, but will leave link for now in case it is re-established) |
I am a member here. A coin oriented site where members post and organize photos. One can manage albums and some sales listings. It's a younger, but growing site. It also is an excellent tool for hosting your photos. Unlike things like photobucket (which I do use) there are no annoying adds, the organization is coin-centric, and the file sizes are waayyy more generous.

Powered by Krause. A useful jumping off point for valuations and basic information. NOT a definitive guide to current prices and does not reflect all issues, but comes pretty darn close. I still like the paper versions for page flipping (and the rapid design identifier), but as an online resource it's a pretty decent.

Heritage is here not so much as an auction house (I'd have to link a lot of sellers, sites and auctioneers if that was the reason for this link) but because the archives are a treasure trove of information. Make an account so you can sign in and search their archives.

Todd Pollock is out of Northern California and does most excellent coin photography. You can ship to him or meet him at a coin show. He did all but one (so far) of the Albanian coins on the site. Highly recommended!

Jeremy Katz is the principle of JK coins. He is a seller on eBay taking consignments and also does fantastic coin photography. Great pictures and a no hassle/top dollar generating seller with a very reasonable commission.

Random links that have nothing to do with numismatics
DC Eagle Cam (well this is not so useful unless it's the right time of year. The 2016 eaglets are fledged and apparently successful)
Star City Greyhounds is where Homer was adopted from. I hesitate to say rescued as the lazy fart washed out of racing school and was immediately sent out to be a pet. Star City Greyhounds is one of MANY rescues that finds homes for dogs like Homer, retired racers, brood dogs etc. If you are inclined to be a dog servant greyhounds really are wonderful pets. Adopt the Racing Greyhound is a good book if you become interested.
My other dog is a Galgo, a Spanish Greyhound. That one is a true rescue--a gross story that is not worth repeating here, but needless to say, I am not a fan of a certain segment of the Spanish population. Her rescue is the Sighthound Underground which takes a lot of breeds. Another is SAGE (Save A Galgo Espanol).
